Kim Wilde

Kim Wilde, de son vrai nom Kim Smith, née le 18 novembre 1960 à Chiswick, dans l'ouest de Londres, est une chanteuse et une icône de la culture populaire anglaise.

Son père est le rocker des années 1950 Marty Wilde (de son vrai nom Reginald Smith) et sa mère est Joyce Baker, ancien membre des chanteuses et danseuses The Vernons Girls. Kim Wilde achève ses études au St Albans College of Art and Design en 1980. Elle débute sa carrière de chanteuse en janvier 1981 avec le titre Kids in America, qui est instantanément un succès : numéro 2 dans les charts britanniques, dans le top 5 de tous les pays d'Europe et même, 25e du classement Hot 100 aux États-Unis. Sur la couverture de son premier album, Kim Wilde, la chanteuse apparaît aux côtés de ses musiciens, Ricky Wilde, James Stevenson et Calvin Hayes, ce qui sera interprêté par certains comme une tentative de récupérer l'esthétique et le succès du groupe Blondie.

Parmi ses succès ultérieurs, notons : Chequered Love et Cambodia, toujours en 1981, View From A Bridge et Love Blonde en 1982, ou encore You Keep Me Hangin' On en 1986 (reprise des Supremes). En Grande-Bretagne, Kim Wilde est détentrice du record du plus grand nombre de disques vendus pour une chanteuse.

Kim Wilde produit toujours plus ou moins régulièrement des disques (son dernier album, Never say never, est annoncé en 2006). Mais parallèlement à la musique, elle mène avec succès une carrière d'horticultrice et a dessiné de nombreux jardins. Elle a d'ailleurs publié deux livres sur le jardinage et figure avec son collègue Dave Fontain au Livre Guinness des records pour avoir effectué avec succès la transplantation du plus gros arbre.
